India has reported 26,964 fresh Covid-19 cases and 383 fatalities in last 24 hours. With active cases 3,01,989 are lowest in 186 days, according to the latest update by the Health Ministry.
According to the Ministry, the new fatalities increased the overall death toll to 4,45,768 while the number of recoveries/discharged rose to 3,27,83,741.
India has managed to give double doses of the coronavirus vaccine to 22.2 per cent of the eligible population. When you look at it in terms of total coverage, this means that not even 1/3rd of the total population of India is fully vaccinated.
Covid-19 in Kerala dropped below 16,000 for the second consecutive day. Meanwhile, Mizoram witnessed a steady rise in infections. It reported 1,731 fresh cases, its highest ever single-day count. Mizoram’s tally on Tuesday was the third-highest in India after Kerala and Maharashtra (3,131).

Punjab on Tuesday reported 37 fresh Covid cases taking the infection count to 6,01,359, according to a media bulletin. With one Covid-related fatality reported in the past 24 hours, the death toll reached 16,501 the bulletin said.

The Centre will not buy COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna, three government sources told news agency Reuters.
