The Delhi High Court had dismissed PIL seeking direction to restrain media houses from showing a number of COVID deaths. In a PIL it was stated that media houses are spreading negativity by showing the number of COVID deaths and COVID-related heart-rending stories.
The court, while dismissing the PIL, said: "Informing the public about the numbers of deaths due to COVID-19 is not negative news."
The PIL also stated that news articles and various other TV programs are watched by children, sick and infirm people. Referring to this class of people it made a strong pitch ahead of the High Court.
“Whenever news about death is published, it cannot be said that it is negative news. It is a wrong notion in the mind of the petitioner,” the court said while dismissing the plea.
India reported more than 3 lakh cases for more than a week now and the situation is getting worse day by day.
Many states had already announced partial lockdown but a nation wide lockdown is the need if the hour.
