JN.1 Covid

JN.1 Covid: The World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned countries to maintain stringent surveillance and sequence sharing in response to a surge in infections caused by the latest sub-variant of Sars-CoV-2, the JN.1 variant, which was first identified in India on Saturday. The woman, who is 78 years old, hails from Kerala.

Mild Symptoms in Kerala Patient

Although the Kerala patient only experienced minor symptoms and has since recovered from her infection, the Union health ministry asked states to increase Covid surveillance on Monday out of caution, noting that this sub-variant has caused a resurgence in cases and turned into the predominant strain in several countries.

INSACOG Overview

The Indian SARS-COV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) is a network of laboratories that monitors COVID-19 virus genomic variations, Chief Dr NK Arora said, “No cause for panic (over JN.1 subvariant). The number of samples is less but these are being collected from all the states. INSACOG is closely monitoring the situation, studying the epidemiology and clinical behaviour of the virus.”

JN.1 Subvariant Symptoms

The JN.1-caused Covid-19 symptoms are comparable to those of other variations. There have been reports of a fever, runny nose, sore throat, headache, and mild gastrointestinal symptoms.
