Dr. Reddy's has fixed the price of DRDO's 2DG anti-Covid 19 drug at Rs 990 per pouch. However, the drug will be provided to the pharma company, government hospitals, central and state governments at a discounted price. The manufacturer released the second batch of the anti-covid drug 2-DG on Thursday. DRDO officials had said on 26 May that the second batch of 10,000 pouches of 2DG medicine would be released by Dr. Reddy's Lab on 27 May.
Officials while talking to ANI said that the drug will now be commercially available. Earlier this month, the Drug Controller General of India (DGCI) approved the emergency use of this drug in Covid patients. The approval for the drug was given at a time when the country is in the grip of the second wave of Corona and is fighting the war with it. Due to lack of oxygen in the second wave, patients had to be admitted to hospitals, in which thousands of patients lost their lives every day. At the launch, the Ministry of Defense had said that with the help of this medicine, there is hope of saving precious lives.
Significantly, the 2-DG drug developed by DRDO was approved by the Drug Controller General of India for emergency use on 8 May. DRDO's Lab Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences has designed 2-deoxy-D-glucose in collaboration with Hyderabad-based doctor Reddy Lab.
