Every 2 minutes 1 woman dies during pregnancy, childbirth

Every two minutes a woman dies during pregnancy and childbirth. This shocking report has been presented by the United Nations on Thursday. The report said that this is despite the drop in maternal mortality rate by one-third in 20 years.

The United Nations has told in its report that there has been a tremendous decline in the cases of death of women between the years 2000 and 2015. Between 2016 and 2020, the death rate figure remained stable. However, in some places the death rate has also increased during this period.

Decline in 20 years

According to a report by the World Health Organization and other United Nations agencies, the overall maternal mortality rate declined by 34.3 percent over a 20-year period. In the year 2000, 339 women were dying during the birth of one lakh children. In 2020, this figure decreased to 223. In this way, in 2020, about 800 women died every day. According to these statistics, every two minutes a woman dies due to pregnancy related complications.

According to the report, there has been a record reduction in such cases in Belarus, where there has been a reduction of 95.5 percent. At the same time, the condition of Venezuela is very bad. Most of the deaths have happened here. Tedros Grebresius, chief of the World Health Organization, said that pregnancy should be an exciting, hopeful and positive experience for a woman, but it still remains a dangerous experience for millions of women.

He further said that two-thirds of the deaths occur after childbirth. Heavy bleeding after giving birth is a big problem. Deaths also occur due to rupture of the uterus after emergency delivery. Talk about India, here too the situation is not much better. According to statistics, India with a population of one billion 20 crores needs 1 crore 20 lakh units of blood every year, but only 90 lakh units are collected. In this way 25 percent anemia remains and patients lose their lives.
