ICMR has now removed plasma therapy as a means of treating corona patients. Now patients in the country will not be treated with this therapy.
Plasma therapy was not proving to be effective in saving the lives of corona infected patients. Despite its use, the death of the infected and the severity of their disease have not been reduced.
The decision has been taken after a meeting of the National Task Force on the ICMR, Covid-19, Union Ministry of Health. The task force has also released a new guideline for the treatment of Covid patients.
The new guideline divides Covid patients into three parts. First- patients with mild symptoms, second- patients with moderate symptoms and third patients with severe symptoms. Patients with mild symptoms have been asked to stay in home isolation, patients with moderate and severe infections, admitted to the Covid ward and admitted to the ICU, respectively.
The decision to remove the plasma system from the guidelines has been taken at a time when some doctors and scientists, Principal Scientific Advisor K.K. A letter to Vijayaraghavan was warned about the irrational and non-scientific use of plasma method for the treatment of Covid-19 in the country.
The letter was also sent to ICMR chief Balaram Bhargava and AIIMS director Randeep Guleria.
ICMR says the demand for plasma therapy had increased significantly since the second wave in April.
Even though this therapy will no longer be used, but it is also a fact that till Monday, this therapy has been used to cure a corona patient. ICMR has said that research on plasma therapy in the Netherlands and China has revealed that this technique is not effective in providing health to patients.
