No serious infection in children due to Covid, says AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria

AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria, while holding a press conference on the status of corona and vaccination in the country, said that if we look at the data of India or the world, till now no such data has come which has shown that there is more serious infection in children. There is only a mild infection in children. There is currently no evidence that if the next wave of covid comes, there will be a more serious infection in children.

NITI Aayog member Dr VK Paul said that the price of vaccines for the private sector (hospitals) will be decided by the vaccine manufacturers. States will aggregate demand from the private sector, which means they will see how much network of facilities it has, and the dosage it needs. He said that the government has ordered to procure 25 crore doses of Covishield and 19 crore doses of Covaxin.

The government has also ordered to procure 30 crore doses of biological e vaccine, which will be available by September. When Dr VK Paul was asked whether the Government of India introduced new guidelines for vaccination after the Supreme Court’s decision, he said that we respect the concern of the Supreme Court, but the Government of India is implementing the decentralized model from May 1 was evaluating. Such decisions are taken over a period of time based on analysis and consultation.

Guleria said, ‘There is no data available in the country or in the world to tell that children are coming more in the grip of corona epidemic. The children who fell ill in the second wave of corona already had some mild illness or other problems. I do not think that there will be a big risk of infection in children from corona in future.’

Health Ministry’s Joint Secretary Luv Aggarwal said that 86,498 cases of corona infection were found in the last 24 hours. This is a reduction of about 79 percent in the high level of one-day infection. There has been a decrease of 33 percent in the number of cases of corona infection reported last week.
