One in Four People Have Heart Attacks Without Traditional Risk Factors; Lancet Study

Heart Attack Symptoms: According to a recently released study by physicians from the Madras Medical College, one in four people did not have the main risk factors at the time of their first major heart attack, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and smoking. Additionally, the study discovered that groups with and without the risk factors had comparable rates of in-hospital fatalities or all-cause mortality up to a year following release.

27.1% of women and 22.1% of males experienced heart attacks without the four risk factors

Additionally, the study discovered that 27.1% of women and 22.1% of males experienced heart attacks without the four risk factors. The lack of diagnosis prior to a cardiac incident may be the reason why more women aren’t coming in with a history of the four risk factors. Women frequently neglect their own needs and health.

It is equally crucial to address the non-quantifiable risk factors

Additionally, those lacking risk factors tended to be older and ex-smokers. The mean age of individuals who experienced a heart attack without risk factors was 57.4, whereas it was 55.7 for those who did. The study also discovered that just 5% of those who had the four risk factors at the time of their heart attack had ever used tobacco, compared to 10.4% of those who did not. This indicates that it is equally crucial to address the non-quantifiable risk factors. If one-fourth of people are experiencing heart attacks despite not having any of the four traditional risk factors, which can be identified with easy tests, then additional risk factors must be present. Because of this, it’s also important to consider the patient’s mental condition, including if they are stressed, feeling guilty, being unforgiving of someone or something, feeling useless, or lacking in a strong support system. All of these elements are crucial.
