Masoor Dal (Red Lentil)
This pulse has much less fat, but has protein in high quantity. All the minerals are present in it. The best thing about it is that the bioavailability of the all nutrients found in it is very high. It produces blood in the body, and it is very light. So, people can easily digest it. It is good for those, who have anemia, fatigue or develop fat easily after eating food. Its 100 gram gives 24 grams of protein to your body. It is also one of the best sources of iron, maintains hemoglobin in the body. Calcium is present in moderate quantity. Phosphorous is present in sufficient quantity that improves bone density. It is also removes fatigue in menstruating women.
Moong Dal (Green Gram/Split Yellow Moong)
This dal is of two types—Hari Dal and Yellow Dal. It contains protein, phosphorus, magnesium and folic acid in sufficient quantity. If you eat it with rice, it provides you with all nine amino acids, which you get by eating meat. It is good for kids and old people, or those who have poor digestion, blood sugar or heart-related problems. It also reduces acidity, gas and detoxifies liver, reduces LDL cholesterol, strengthens bones and muscles, and also helps in weight loss.
Urad Dal (Black Gram)
The best thing about this dal is that it has more calcium than other dals. So it is the best dal for bones, joints and strengths. It contains sufficient amount of iron, and removes fatigue from the body. But it is heavy and it takes time to be digested. If your digestive system is weak, you should desist from eating it. It is suggested to eat it in fermented form, such as Idli, Dosa.
Bonus Dal—Kulthi Dal (Horse Gram)
This dal is more nutritious than other dals. It contains more protein than other dals. Iron is also present is sufficient quantity and calcium is exceptionally high in it. From 100 gram dal, you get 25 gram protein, 6-7 mg of iron, 280 mg of calcium. Dal gives strength to muscles, increases bone density, and helps in tissue repair. It is beneficial for ladies and senior citizens. It also dissolves kidney stones and reduces water retention and fat accumulation in the body and improves digestion. you should eat during winter or rainy season most.
