Honda: When it comes to the safety of riders, airbag systems are becoming increasingly effective and crucial, however, the system is incorporated into the rider's clothing, not the bike, but Honda may have a new solution.
First production version of an airbag-equipped vehicle in 2006
After revealing several prototypes of motorcycles equipped with airbags, the Japanese manufacturer introduced its first production version of an airbag-equipped vehicle in 2006 on the Gold Wing. The Japanese manufacturer has played a very significant role in the development of airbag systems. Even today, seventeen years after its introduction, the Gold Wing is the only motorcycle on the market to feature a cushion.

Traditional airbags, such as those that can be found in automobiles and are utilised in the Gold Wing, are the only type of airbags that are capable of protecting riders on motorcycles when certain conditions are met. In order for the airbag to work properly, the rider needs to be seated in a position that is easy to anticipate, and the impact must come from the front. While built-in airbag systems in clothing have demonstrated their value on multiple occasions, the decision to utilise such systems significantly restricts the types of clothing that can be worn.
Honda has submitted multiple patent applications
The most recent suggestion made by Honda is to design a bike-mounted airbag that operates in the same manner as a clothing-mounted airbag, namely, by wrapping itself around the rider in the event of an impact and automatically separating from the bike in the event of a crash, thereby protecting the rider in the event that separation occurs between the rider and the bike.
