Airbags: The business has ruled out any fault in the airbags of the Scorpio SUV he was driving in response to an FIR filed against Mahindra group chairman Anand Mahindra and 12 others for the unintentional death of a man in Uttar Pradesh.

Nearly all new cars on the planet come equipped with airbags. in this article, we will tell you how airbags work and where they can be found in a car.
In the event of a collision, airbags operate as a cushion to absorb energy and lessen the risk of injury or worse by preventing your delicate body parts from striking hard surfaces. Read on to learn more.

"It was alleged that the vehicle did not have airbags. We would hence like to categorically reconfirm that the Scorpio S9 variant manufactured in 2020 did have airbags. We have investigated and there was no malfunction of the airbags. It was a rollover case which would not deploy the frontal airbags," a press statement said.

How do Airbags work?

When a serious frontal collision occurs at a speed of more than 24 km/h, sensors installed in airbag units trigger the inflator. A thin nylon bag is swiftly inflated by the inflator, which burns a chemical mixture of potassium nitrate (KNO3) and sodium azide (NaN3) to produce a pulse of nitrogen gas.

In order to prevent the dashboard, steering wheel, or any other surface in front from hitting your face or body, the bag pushes its way out from between a crack in the cover as it inflates. The airbag absorbs the impact as your head or torso collides with it by deflating through holes at the base.

Frontal airbags won't activate in the event of a side impact or rollover since airbags are meant to inflate at collision speeds above 25 km/h and when the angle of impact is approximately 30 degrees on either side of the car's path.

In less than half the time it takes to blink your eyes, the driver-side airbag ignites and inflates in 20–30 milliseconds. The passenger bag takes 30–40 milliseconds.

Where can these be found in a car?

Prior to front-seat passengers receiving them, steering-wheel-mounted driver airbags were the first to be introduced. Since that time, airbags have developed for almost every interior surface of the car, including seatbelt airbags that can disperse collision forces across the laps and torsos of passengers as well as curtain airbags that extend from the roof of the vehicle to protect heads in a side-on collision. Even pedestrians have benefited from airbags, as some automobiles feature a 'bag that extends from the bonnet to cushion those on foot who are struck by a car.
