Anjel Chakma: Priyanka Chaturvedi, a member Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra and Deputy Leader of Shiv Sena, has condemned the killing of Anjel Chakma, a 24-year-old MBA student from Tripura.

Chaturvedi said the nation should hang its head in shame on the death of a brave son of a BSF constable.
Anjel and his younger brother Michael were confronted by a group of men who hurled racial slures at them on December 9. Both were stabbed and Chakma died in a hospital in Dehradun on Friday.
Anjel Chakma said, “We are not Chinese… We are Indians. What certificate should we show to prove that?” minutes before he was stabbed. This was after both Anjel and Michael were taunted by a group of men who talked with them using derogatory terms in Selaqui area of Dehradun.
Five of the six men have been arrested. One accused is believed to have fled to Nepal. Two teams of police have been sent to Nepal to nab and bring him back.
A first information report (FIR) has been filed against the six, which include two juveniles, under sections 115, 118, 351, 109 and 61.
Michael’s Statement To Police
Michael survived the attack and told police and friends that Anjel was calm but firmly corrected them.
Anjel suffered severe and fatal injuries to his spine and neck. The body of Anjel was flown back to his home state and Tripura erupted in anger. The family of Anjel was a member of the erstwhile royal family of Tripura and the chairman of Tipra Motha Party.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha spoke to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami over the death of Anjel in Graphic Era Hospital on December 26.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been urged by the Chakma Development Foundation of India to enact a comprehensive anti-racial violence law.
It is a tragedy that patriotic people from the north-eastern states of India are referred to as Chinese and stabbed to death.
