First of all, it is important to know that there are five toy trains running in the country. But in the last 118 years, the country has not got a single toy train. That is, before independence, it was run by the British. This will be the first time that a toy train will be designed and operated by the government of the country.

Indian Railways is ready to deploy three new toy trains in Himachal Pradesh. According to the report of ‘Livemint’, these trains will be run on Shimla-Kalka route by the end of this year. A railway official said that coaches of Kalka-Shimla toy trains are being manufactured at Rail Coach Factory (RCF) Kapurthala.

The coaches of the new train are designed by German manufacturer Link Hoffmann Busch (LHB). There will be a total of 30 new generation LHB coaches for the toy trains which use 765 mm narrow gauge.

The new trains will have 180 degree rotatable chair seats in AC coaches and flip-type seating in GS coaches. The train will have CCTV, two emergency alarm push buttons in all coaches, a passenger announcement system, a passenger information system, WiFi for infotainment and a sync-in LED destination board.

The new Kalka-Shimla toy trains will allow modification in the seating pattern in case of private or group bookings. The coaches will be the Vistadome coaches, who will make the experience of a very fascinating sight. The roof will get curved glass glazing (VLT), bodyside double-foldable doors, state-of-the-art floor with LEDs will make it even more attractive.

The new toy trains will run on a 96.6 km narrow-gauge track built by the British in 1903. Apart from Kalka-Shimla, India operates toy trains like Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Nilgiri Mountain Railway (Tamil Nadu), Matheran Hill Railway and Kangra Valley Railway (Himachal Pradesh).
