Jharkhand HC grants bail to Lalu Yadav in Fodder scam case

Bihar politician and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was granted bail on Saturday (April 17) in the fodder scam case by Jharkhand High Court thus clearing the way for his release from jail.

The bail was granted to the RJD supremo by Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh.

“We will go through the order copy, once we receive it. Following the procedure, we will inform the RIMS and AIIMS, Delhi that now he is not a prisoner. Till now AIIMS has been sending Lalu’s health updates. He may be released from AIIMS directly,” Birendra Bhushan, IG Prisons said.

Fooder scam case:

The case pertains to fraudulent withdrawals of Rs 3.13 crore from the Dumka treasury in Bihar, when Lalu Prasad was the chief minister.

RJD leader admitted to Delhi’s AIIMS:

The RJD leader, presently admitted to Delhi’s AIIMS for treatment, was earlier granted bail in three out of the four cases linked to the fodder scam in Bihar. He can now walk out of jail and return to his home after being released from the hospital.

HC order:

The court directed him neither to leave the country without permission nor change his address and mobile number during the bail period, news agency ANI reported.

“The bench of justice Aparesh Kumar Singh granted bail to Prasad on the condition that he would furnish two sureties of ₹1 lakh each and ₹10 lakh fine amount before the court below,” Central Bureau of Investigation’s counsel and assistant solicitor general Rajiv Sinha said.

The leader was convicted in three other cases related to the fodder scam, in which he was granted bail earlier.
