Kargil Vijay Diwas 2021: President Kovind’s visit to Drass cancelled due to bad weather

President Ram Nath Kovind’s visit to Drass on the occasion of 22nd Kargil Vijay was halted in the backdrop of bad weather. The President was expected to go Drass town to pay homage to the indomitable courage and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces during the 1999 Kargil conflict. The President instead paid homage at the Baramulla War Memorial. Even in one occasion earlier, the president’s visit to Drass was cancelled in the wake of bad weather. In 2019 also due to bad weather, the President could not visit Dras to participate in the Kargil Vijay Diwas.

“Bad weather forces cancellation of President Ram Nath Kovind’s Kargil visit to mark Vijay Diwas,” news agency PTI tweeted on Monday.

India marks Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26 every year to mark the anniversary of the Indian Army’s victory against Pakistan on this day in 1999, after more than 60 days of armed conflict on the highlands of Kargil in Ladakh.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged the countrymen to salute the brave hearts who made the nation proud in 1999. “It is only natural to be filled with emotions in respect for the one who raises the tricolour for the country. This feeling of patriotism unites us all,” the Prime Minister said while addressing his monthly Mann Ki Baat radio programme.
