List Of Countries Who Already Implemented Tour Of Duty Scheme

Agnipath Scheme: There is a protest against the Agnipath scheme across the country. There are reports of arson and violence coming from many cities. This new scheme of the government is Agnipath ‘Tour of Duty Entry Scheme’. Under this scheme, soldiers will be recruited in the army (Army, Navy, Air Force) on contract basis for a fixed period of time and after training the youth will be posted in different fields.

The anger among the youth is that due to this scheme, they will become unemployed after 4 years. But the government is also presenting the example of all the countries of the world in its favor.

The scheme is already implemented in many countries

In such a situation, it is important to know that in how many countries of the world the ‘Tour of Duty’ scheme is applicable. What are the conditions there? In which major countries is military service compulsory for youth? Also, how many countries are there, where the army is recruited for 4 years or less.

There are more than 30 countries in the world where Tour of Duty has been implemented in some way or the other. Of these, there are 10 countries where both men and women have to compulsorily serve in the army. These include countries like China, Israel, Sweden, Ukraine, Norway, North Korea, Morocco, Cape Verde, Chad, Eritrea.

Israel

Military service is mandatory for both men and women in Israel. Men serve in the Israeli Defense Force for 3 years and women for about 2 years.

China

In India’s neighboring country China, it is mandatory for people to serve in the military. This tour of duty is for the youth of 18 to 22 years of age.

Russia

Here citizens can do tour of duty at any time from the age of 18 to 27 years. It is mandatory to give at least 12 months of service in this.

Britain

Here different tour of duty limit has been fixed for Army, Navy and Airforce.

North Korea

Here men have to work under tour of duty in all three armies.

Brazil

Military service is required in Brazil for anyone over the age of 18. This happens for 1 year.

Russia

Compulsory military service is required in Russia for young people between the ages of 18 and 27.

Bermuda

In Bermuda, the government runs a lottery to recruit men into the army.

South Korea

In South Korea, all able-bodied men have to serve for 21 months in the Army, 23 months in the Navy and 24 months in the Air Force.

Syria

Military service is compulsory for all men in Syria. In March 2011, the compulsory military service was reduced from 21 months to 18 months.

Switzerland

Compulsory military service is in force in Switzerland. Here all healthy men have to join the military as soon as they become adults. Women themselves can join the army if they want, otherwise it is not necessary for them.

Singapore

Military service is compulsory in Singapore. Every man is required to join the Singapore Armed Forces at the age of 18.

Thailand

Compulsory military service in Thailand has been in force since 1905. All men are required to enlist in the army. Men have to join the army as soon as they reach the age of 21.

Turkey

Army recruitment is also necessary in Turkey. All those men whose age is between 20 and 41 years, they have to join the Turkish army.

Norway

In Norway, citizens between the ages of 19 and 44 have to compulsorily serve the country by enlisting in the army.

Military training is mandatory in these countries too

Civilian and military training is mandatory in 15 countries like Austria, Angola, Denmark, Mexico, Iran. Apart from this, there are 11 countries where citizens have the option of military training. There are 10 countries like China, Kuwait, France, Singapore, Mali, Colombia, Taiwan, Thailand, where military service is both compulsory and voluntary.
