Mahindra Thar 5 Door to launch later this year? Will compete with Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Gurkha 5 Door, all we know so far

Mahindra Thar 5 Door: The 5-door Thar off-road SUV from Mahindra might be unveiled this Fourth of July, exactly like the second-generation Thar. There have been rumours that the business may unveil the 5-door Thar at an event it is hosting in South Africa from August 15–16, 2023. The second half of this year is probably when sales of the 5-door Mahindra Thar will begin. The 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be challenged by this more functional long-wheelbase (LWB) version of the existing Thar.

Mahindra Thar 5 Door powertrain details

It's expected that the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engines from the current 3-door Thar SUV will be used in the future 5-door model. which would have available outputs of 370Nm/172bhp and 300Nm/130bhp, respectively. Both a manual and automatic gearbox will be available for it. The 5-door Mahindra Thar will have both 4X2 and 4X2 drivetrain options, similar to the 3-door Thar's availability of both. Only the more potent 2.2L diesel engine will be compatible with the 4X4 system.

Design

The 5-door Thar will have a longer wheelbase (by around 300 mm) than the 3-door model, which will result in a roomier cabin. It will have split-back seats, according to the spy photos. The majority of its characteristics will resemble those of the 3-door Thar. Mahindra, a vehicle manufacturer, may, however, provide a modern touchscreen infotainment system with AdrenoX software, a sunglasses holder, and a centre armrest at the front.

The three-door Mahindra Thar's five doors will share a lot of similarities with it in terms of style and design. With round headlamps, wide wheel arches and a spare positioned on the tailboard, it will keep its distinctive boxy stance. The body panels will be replaced, nevertheless. Also available are brand-new alloy wheels.
