Mani Ratnam admitted to Chennai hospital after testing Covid positive

Mani Ratnam, a filmmaker has been admitted to a private hospital in Chennai after testing positive for coronavirus, as per media reports. The hospital is yet to issue a formal statement regarding the filmmaker’s health. The actor and director Pratap Pothen passed away on July 15; the 66-year-old director recently attended his funeral. On July 8 in the city, Mani Ratnam had also attended the trailer release for his next historical play Ponniyin Selvan I.

The director remarked, “Makkal Thilagam MGR sir was scheduled to do the picture after Naadodi Mannan.” He was referring to the historical novel of the same name by writer Kalki, on which his magnum work Ponniyin Selvan is based. I tried working on this project three times—in the 1980s, in 2000, and again in 2010—but it did not work out, he said, adding that he recognises the responsibility that comes with the movie because Tamil audiences enjoy the Ponniyin Selvan novel.
