Monkeypox declared a global health emergency by WHO

In view of the increasing cases of monkeypox around the world, WHO has declared a global health emergency. The WHO has also appealed to the common people to be alert in view of the increase in the case.

A few days ago, the first case of monkeypox was also reported in Kerala, India. During that time it was said by the central government that the person who had symptoms of monkeypox had returned after traveling to UAE a few days ago.

Just after this case, the second case of this virus was also reported in Kerala itself.

Also just two days ago Kerala reported India’s third monkeypox case in man who returned from UAE.

Health minister Veena George said the Malappuram native arrived in the southern state on July 6 and was undergoing treatment at the Manjeri Medical College there.

After getting the third patient of monkeypox in Kerala, the central government was fully alert. The Center had given instructions for strict screening at airport-ports, so that patients of monkeypox could be identified and treated in time.

At the same time, they can prevent the disease occurring in others. The health department of the state had increased surveillance at all the five airports of the state. So far, cases of monkeypox have been found in 27 countries of the world.

Last month, WHO’s expert committee said the worldwide Monkeypox outbreak did not yet amount to an international emergency, but the panel convened this week to reevaluate the situation.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 16,000 cases of Monkeypox have been reported in 74 countries since about May. To date, Monkeypox deaths have only been reported in Africa, where a more dangerous version of the virus is spreading, mainly in Nigeria and Congo.
