MP: Free education, pension to kids orphaned due to COVID-19

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday announced that children who lost their parents or guardians due to Covid will be provided free education and Rs 5,000 monthly pension.

“We cannot leave such families, we are the government of the state and we will support these children” the Madhya Pradesh CM said.

“We will give Rs 5,000 per month pension to children who have lost their parents/guardians in this Covid pandemic. We’ll also arrange free education for these children and free ration for these families,” he further said.

Mr. Chouhan said children who have lost their parents should not worry about their life. “They are the children of the State and it will look after them,” the Chief Minister said.

First state in country to start such scheme:

Meanwhile, Home Minister Narottam Mishra claimed Madhya Pradesh is the first State in the country to start such a scheme for children and aged people whose kin died in the pandemic.

Madhya Pradesh on May 12 reported 8,970 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 84 fatalities, taking its infection tally to 7,00,202 and death toll to 6,679, the state health department told the news agency PTI .
