Need to crack down on proxy war

PM Modi also spoke about state-sponsored terror and the need to crack down on such form of proxy war. He said organisations and individuals that try to create sympathy for terrorists must also be isolated.

“Certain countries support terrorism as part of their foreign policy. They offer political, ideological and financial support to them… There must be a cost imposed on such countries,” he said.

India fought back bravely

PM Modi also said though India has suffered for decades due to terrorism, it has fought back bravely.

“We consider that even a single attack is one too many. Even a single life lost is one too many. So, we will not rest till terrorism is uprooted,” the prime minister said.

“The gangs have deep links with terrorists. The money made in gun running, drugs and smuggling is being pumped into terrorism… Action against organised crimes is extremely important in the fight against terrorism.” The PM asserted the country will not rest till terrorism is uprooted and added that the long-term impact of terrorism is particularly hard on the poor and local countries.

He said all terrorist attacks deserve equal outrage and action. Only a uniform, unified, zero-tolerance approach can defeat terrorism, he said.

450 delegates at the conference

About 450 delegates from across the world, including Ministers, Heads of Multilateral organisations and Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Heads of Delegations, are participating in the conference.

There will be four sessions at the Conference that will focus on ‘Global Trends in Terrorism and Terrorist Financing’, ‘Use of Formal and Informal Channels of Funds for Terrorism’, ‘Emerging Technologies and Terrorist Financing’ and ‘International Co-operation to Address Challenges in Combating Terrorist Financing’.

Amit Shah to conclude meet

Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the concluding session of the conference on Saturday.

“The conference will build on gains and learnings of the previous two conferences (held in Paris in April 2018 and in Melbourne in November 2019) and will work towards enhancing global cooperation to deny finances to terrorists and access to permissive jurisdictions to operate,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.
