NCRB Report 2022: 40% Increase in criminal cases in the capital Delhi

NCRB Report 2022: The figures of the new report released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) are very shocking. There has been a 40% increase in criminal cases in the capital Delhi in a year, 13,892 cases of crime against women were registered in 2021. Along with this, the capital remained the most unsafe city in the country, where 2 minor girls are raped every day.

According to the latest NCRB report, Delhi ranks first among 19 metros in terms of crime with 32.20%, followed by Mumbai with 12.76% and Bengaluru at 7.2%. The capital recorded the maximum number of criminal cases in 2021, including kidnapping-3948, cruelty by husbands-4674 and rape- 833 rape cases. On an average, two girls were raped every day in Delhi.

There has been some decrease in murder cases in Delhi as compared to the year 2020. 500 cases were registered in 2019, 461 in 2020 and 454 in 2021.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, Kolkata has emerged as the safest city for the second consecutive year in 2021.

According to the report, Kolkata has the least number of crimes per lakh population. In terms of crime, Kolkata is at the bottom of this year as well.

According to the data, Kolkata has maintained its position thrice in the last four years. This was the situation of Kolkata in the years 2018, 2020 and 2021, while the exception was in 2019. The NCRB claims that it had not received the state data.

According to the report, Kolkata’s latest figures with a score of 103.4 (number of cognizable offenses registered per 1 lakh people) are better than last year’s, when it had scored 129.5. Pune ranks second in this list with a score of 256.8. It is followed by Hyderabad (259.9), Kanpur (336.5), Bengaluru (427.2) and Mumbai (428.4).

According to NCRB figures, in the year 2021, 45 cases of murder, 135 of attempt to murder, 11 of rape, 127 of assault on women, 3 of dacoity and 1246 of theft were registered, whereas in 2018 53 more cases of murder were registered. 121 cases of attempts were registered. Kolkata had 11 rapes in 2021, the same as in 2020, but 14 in 2018 and less than 15 in 2017. Kolkata has achieved something that not many others have been able to do. Here the IPC crime rate has dropped from 109.9 to 92.6 in 2021. The score in 2018 was 139.5. Which was 141.2 in 2017 and 159.6 in 2016.

The crime rate of the city has been decreasing for the last 7 years. The total number of cases came down to just 14,591 in 2021 from 18,277 in 2020. There were 26,161 cases in the year 2014. The total number of IPC offenses has come down from 15,517 in 2021. has reached 13,067 in 2021. There were 17,324 cases in 2019. The number of state law crimes has also come down – from 2,760 in 2020 to 1,524 in 2021. Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goel called it “the hard work of the officers and men of Kolkata Police and the active support of the people of Kolkata”.
