Neeraj Chopra receives numerous rewards: Haryana, Punjab, BCCI announce cash awards for Olympic Gold medalist

History was created on Saturday at Tokyo Olympics 2020 when Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, 23, won first ever gold medal for India in athletics. The debutant was flowing with confidence from the beginning of the tournament and it was evidently visible in his performance. This gold medal, only the second, comes 13 years after India’s first gold medal won by shooter Abhinav Bindra in 2008 in Beijing Olympics. With this, India’s journey in Tokyo Olympics have come to an end.

The entire nation is rejoiced with this win and in the same line, accolades are being showered on Chopra. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke with the young athlete and extended his heartfelt congratulations.

“Just spoke to Neeraj Chopra and congratulated him on winning the Gold! Appreciated his hardwork and tenacity, which have been on full display during #Tokyo2020. He personifies the best of sporting talent and sportsman spirit. Best wishes for his future endeavours,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

Here’s a list of prizes that Neeraj Chopra will receive

1.Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) announced a sum of Rs 1 crore for Neeraj Chopra. The cricketing body has also announced cash prize for other medalists.

2. Chopra, India’s second individual gold in Olympic history with a sensational performance, has been rewarded by the chief minister of Haryana and Punjab M L Khattar and Amarinder Singh who announced cash rewards of Rs 6 crores and 2 crores respectively. Khattar also announced that Chopra will be made head of upcoming Centre for Excellence in Athletics in Panchkula.

3. IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings announced a Rs one crore reward for Chopra. “As a mark of appreciation and honour on his stellar achievement, CSK is awarding Rs. 1 Crore to Neeraj Chopra,” said CSK in a statement.

4. IndiGo has announced unlimited free travel for 1 year to Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra. The airline said that the javelin thrower can travel for free on its flights till August 7 next year.

5. Gurugram-based realty firm Elan group Chairman Rakesh Kapoor on Saturday announced a Rs 25 lakh cash award for Neeraj Chopra

6. Mahindra group Chairman Anand Mahindra on Saturday promised to gift the javelin thrower the company’s upcoming SUV XUV700. Responding to a follower on Twitter who asked him to gift Chopra the XUV700, Mahindra said, “Yes indeed. It will be my personal privilege & honour to gift our Golden Athlete an XUV 700.”

The 23-year-old Neeraj began with a bang. His first throw was 87.03m. That was followed by a gold medal throw of 87.58m.
