Over 34 people with Al-Qaeda links arrested in Assam

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had recently said during a press conference that Assam is fast becoming a hotbed of jihadi activities. He also said that jihadi ideology is different and more dangerous than terrorist or extremist activities.

Assam Police arrests over 34 people with Al-Qaeda links

Meanwhile, news is coming that the state police has arrested more than 34 people on charges of being linked to the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda.

According to a senior Assam Police official, the local police have arrested over 34 people linked to al-Qaeda in the state. According to news agency ANI, DGP Assam Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said, “More than 34 people linked to al-Qaeda have already been arrested. Assam Police will not allow such conspiracies to succeed. Some army training camps have been set up by Bangladeshis.”

The DGP of Assam also said that some new groups are emerging in the state and are taking advantage of the youth to spread bigotry.

He said, “There are different types of groups of madrassas in Assam. Some new groups are emerging and taking advantage. Currently Bangladesh and al-Qaeda affiliated groups are influencing youth to spread radicalism.”
