Fuel prices on Monday touched another high as the rates were hiked for the seventh straight day. Petrol and diesel prices were hiked across the country for the seventh consecutive day on Monday.
Petrol prices crossed the ₹104-mark as they were hiked by 30 paise from ₹104.14 per litre to cost ₹104.44 per litre, while diesel rates were hiked by 35 paise from ₹ 92.82 to cost ₹ 93.17, according to Indian Oil Corporation.
This sent the petrol price in Delhi to its highest-ever level of Rs 104.44 a litre and to Rs 110.41 in Mumbai. Diesel rates too touched a record high of Rs 93.17 in Delhi and Rs 101.03 in Mumbai.
Petrol price in Kolkata has gone up to Rs 105.09 per litre and diesel can be purchased at Rs 96.28 a litre.
In Tamil Nadu’s capital city Chennai, petrol price has been hiked to ₹101.79 and diesel is being retailed at ₹97.59.
In Karnataka’s capital city Bengaluru, petrol price has increased to ₹108.08 while diesel is being sold at ₹98.89 per litre.

Petrol crosses Rs 100 in these states
The price of petrol has crossed Rs 100 in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Petrol price is highest in Mumbai.
Difference in the price of petrol and diesel in the states varies due to the tax and the cost of transportation imposed by the central and state government.

Reason for price hike
For seven days in a row, the price of petrol has been hiked by 30 paise a litre and diesel by 35 paise, the biggest rally in rates.
This is because the international benchmark Brent crude has soared to over 82 per barrel after the decision by OPEC not to increase output more than 0.4 million barrels per day, fuel rates are being increased by a larger proportion.
