Abhishek Banerjee’s Defiant Arrival in Delhi Sets the Stage for Trinamool’s Protest Plans

“Stop me if you can. I am not challenging any probe agency. Whatever I had to say, I have said. I am putting that challenge right across from the soil of Delhi again,” Banerjee said while speaking to reporters on his arrival in Delhi. “The MPs and the ministers are meeting here tonight. There will be discussions and deliberations and we will explore the way forward,” he said. On Monday, 49 busloads of TMC supporters are expected to arrive in Delhi. On October 2, TMC MPs and state ministers will participate in a nonviolent sit-in at Rajghat.

Trinamool Plans Peaceful MGNREGA Rally in Delhi Amidst Transportation Challenges

The following day would see a peaceful rally of MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme) job card holders, according to party leaders. Live streaming will be available for both programmes. The regional party organised the vehicles when the Indian Railways declined to hire out special trains to transport the employees to Delhi, citing a lack of rakes. The TMC asserted that the BJP government was attempting to thwart the demonstration by blocking trains and cancelling a flight to Delhi.

Abhishek Banerjee’s Fervent Pledge

Before leaving for Delhi, Banerjee made the following statement at the NSCBI Airport in Kolkata: “The agitation will continue until the rightful dues of the people of Bengal are released by the Centre.” He emphasised that despite the state government delivering verified beneficiary lists in December 2022, the Centre has still not made any payments. He questioned the stoppage of monies going to the recipients and sought action against corrupt government programmes.
