Rahul Gandhi said, ‘We have to unite this voice, the stronger this voice is united, the stronger it will be. And it will be equally difficult for BJP and RSS to suppress this voice. This was the first time when Rahul Gandhi tried to unite the entire opposition in this way. He invited leaders of opposition parties to the Constitution Club for breakfast.’

In this, many political parties from across the country including Shiv Sena and NCP from Maharashtra participated. Many other parties including Samajwadi Party, CPI, CPIM, JMM were involved in these. However, the Aam Aadmi Party, which is in power in Delhi and Mayawati’s BSP, kept a distance from this meeting. There has been no response from both the parties on whether or not to participate in the meeting.

Generally, Sonia Gandhi has been making efforts for the unity of opposition parties from UPA and beyond, but now Rahul Gandhi’s move in this direction shows that he has come to the driving seat. After the meeting of opposition parties, Rahul Gandhi also led a cycle march and registered a symbolic protest against gas and petrol and diesel.
