Arvind Kejriwal govt complains about LG VK Saxena in SC

The war between Delhi’s LG VK Saxena and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is getting intensified instead of stopping. The Arvind Kejriwal-led government has now complained to the Supreme Court about the LG. In the complaint, it has been alleged that the LG is interfering in the business and that he is instigating the bureaucrats against the elected government. In the affidavit given in the Supreme Court on Wednesday, the Kejriwal government has said that the LG has derailed the government in the capital.

The affidavit further states that the LG is running a parallel system in the National Capital Territory of Delhi by giving himself the powers of the elected government. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has filed two separate affidavits before the Constitutional Bench in the Center Vs Delhi Government fight. Sisodia has alleged that the LG is constantly trying to capture the powers of the Delhi government. There is no response from the LG office yet.

In this regard, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has given affidavits in two separate cases. The first case pertains to the ongoing tussle between the Center and the Delhi government and the central government over control of bureaucrats. Whereas the second case is related to the administration of Delhi in the hands of the LG. A provision has been made in the Government of Delhi National Capital Territory (Amendment) Act, 2021 that it is necessary for the government to take the opinion of the LG on some important decisions taken by the cabinet of the Delhi government.

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud is hearing both the cases together. These cases will be heard on November 24. On this petition filed by the Delhi government in April, the central government had said that the AAP government was obstructing the functioning and keeping the LG in the dark about many important decisions. Recently there have been many such occasions when there have been many tussles between the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi VK Saxena and the Delhi government. It was the LG who recommended a CBI probe into the Excise scam, though AAP has denied any role in this corruption. The Delhi government was also accused of malpractices in the bus contract, apart from this, questions were raised on the Delhi government regarding the construction of classrooms.
