The CBI has summoned Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee in connection with the investigation into the Ponzi scam case involving Icore Group of Companies. At the same time, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also issued summons to Trinamool Congress leader Madan Mitra in a separate Ponzi scam case. Sources in the agencies gave this information on Friday.

The CBI has registered a case against iCore Group. iCore Group has been accused of raising Rs 3 thousand crores on the pretext of returning more money to the people.

After the Supreme Court's order in this case, the case was handed over to the CBI. In 2014, the Supreme Court had directed the CBI to take over all cases related to chit fund which were being investigated by the state police. The CBI says that evidence has been found that Parth Chatterjee is also involved in this case. That is why they have been summoned.

In this case, the company's director Adhikar Maiti and his wife Kanika were arrested by the CBI in the year 2017.

Later, the main accused Maiti died in a hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was in judicial custody.

Earlier in the year 2019, Central Investigation Investigation (CBI) in Sharda scam summoned West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee. Partha Chatterjee was also questioned by the CBI in this regard.
