The Center and the Congress are face to face with the new boss of CBI, the country's largest investigative agency. Source told that the Congress party has registered its disagreement over the process of shortlisting candidates for consideration by the selection committee for the appointment of the new CBI director.
The selection committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi met on Monday evening to select the new CBI boss. Names of 16 shortlisted candidates out of 109 officers were discussed in the meeting.
According to sources, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, questioned the process of shortlisting the candidates.
However, the committee headed by PM Narendra Modi has approved the names of the three candidates and sent it to the Appointments Committee. According to sources, the three names shortlisted are VSK Kaumudi (Special Secretary, Internal Security, Ministry of Home Affairs), Subodh Jaiswal (DG, CISF) and KR Chandra (DG, SSB).
The CBI chief's race mainly consists of 1984 batch IPS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre and Director General of NIA, YC Modi, DG Rakesh Asthana of BSF of Gujarat cadre and SSB Deswal of ITBP of Haryana cadre. Apart from this, DGP SC Awasthi of UP, DGP Loknath Behera of Kerala, Arun Kumar, DG of Railway Protection Force and SK SK Jaiswal of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) are also in contention. The committee will consider the names of 100 officers of the 1984-87 batch in total.
