Leaders emphasized the need for a compromise formula, recognizing that it becomes imperative when Congress asserts a substantial seat count.
Strategic Plans Across States
- Bihar: Congress leaders in Bihar discussed the potential of securing 10-12 seats out of the total 40, particularly in collaboration with Left parties, envisioning a demand for 25 seats. Flexibility was expressed in adjusting seat allocations based on negotiations with JD(U) and RJD.
- Jharkhand: Leaders in Jharkhand asserted a minimum claim of 12 seats out of 14, refusing to settle for less than seven.
- Uttar Pradesh: The demand from Uttar Pradesh was ambitious, with leaders seeking 40 seats but hopeful of securing 20 through negotiations with the Samajwadi Party.
- West Bengal: Congress leaders suggested a demand for 6 seats, eyeing at least four from the TMC, with negotiations ongoing.
Varied Approaches in Different States
- Punjab: Leaders from Punjab echoed the desire of AAP allies to go solo for the Lok Sabha elections.
National Alliance Committee Insights
The National Alliance Committee, in its meeting with party leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, apprised them of the feedback on seat-sharing from state units. The committee shared that state-wise talks with coalition partners will commence soon.
Missed Deadline and Urgency
The opposition INDIA bloc, aiming to finalize seat-sharing arrangements by December 31, missed the deadline. As the clock ticks for the Lok Sabha polls, the bloc parties are now prioritizing the swift conclusion of seat-sharing negotiations.
