Congress has suffered a major setback after the reshuffle in the parliamentary committee. The Congress has lost the chairmanship of the parliamentary committee of the Home Department and the Information Technology (IT) Department. At the same time, the country's third largest party Trinamool Congress (TMC) has not got the chairmanship of any committee. The Trinamool Congress had earlier headed the Parliamentary Panel on Food and Consumer Affairs. In the latest reshuffle, six key parliamentary committees are headed by the BJP and its allies. The Home, IT, Defence, Foreign, Finance and Health parliamentary committees are headed by the BJP and its allies.
Congress MP Jairam Ramesh has been appointed as the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Brij Lal, BJP's Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh, has been appointed as the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs. Lal has replaced Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
Meanwhile, BJP Lok Sabha MP Radha Mohan Singh has been appointed as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways.
Shiv Sena MP from Shinde faction has become the head of the parliamentary panel on Information Technology (IT). He replaces Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is contesting for the post of Congress party president.
Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav has been appointed as the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare.
The panel on food will be headed by BJP MP Locket Chatterjee and the health panel will be headed by another BJP leader Vivek Thakur.
Meanwhile, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has been given the chairmanship of the parliamentary panel on industry, which was earlier held by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
