Defamation Complaint Filed Against BJP President and IT Cell Head Over Rahul Gandhi Depiction

A Congress leader from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, has filed a defamation complaint against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda and the party’s IT cell head Amit Malviya. The complaint is related to a social media post that depicted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as the mythical demon king Ravana.

Dinesh Joshi, a lawyer and the Jodhpur district president of the Congress’ legal cell, submitted the complaint to a metropolitan magistrate court. In the complaint, he has requested the registration of a case against both BJP leaders under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 499 (false imputation against another person), 500 (defamation), and 504 (intentional insult).

The controversy arose when a photograph of Rahul Gandhi, altered to resemble Ravana, was shared on the official BJP social media handle. Joshi’s complaint asserts that the accused individuals purposely shared the post with malicious intent to harm the Congress’s reputation and that of associated individuals, all for political gain.

The court has accepted the complaint

The complaint further alleges that the BJP leaders portrayed Rahul Gandhi as being anti-Ram (Lord Rama) and anti-religious in an attempt to incite public sentiment against him. The court has accepted the complaint, and the case’s hearing is scheduled for October 11.
