The Crime Branch of Delhi has filed a charge sheet against Devangana Kalita, Natasha Naruwal and Gulffish in the investigation of Delhi riots. The crime branch has named Professor Apurvanand, Yogendra Yadav, Sitaram Yechury, documentary filmmaker Rahul Roy, economist Jayati Ghosh, MLAs Matin Ahmed, Ataullah Khan and Umar Khalid in their statement.
The news agency PTI had claimed late Sunday evening that in the case of riots in February this year, Delhi Police has made many big leaders and activists as co-conspirators. The list claimed CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav, economist Jayati Ghosh, Delhi University professor and activist Apoorvananda and documentary filmmaker Rahul Roy.
PTI had claimed that these people asked protesters opposing CAA to go to any length. At the same time, raising CAA-NRC as anti-Muslim, created resentment in the community and organized demonstrations to tarnish the image of the Indian government.
In this case, the Delhi Police issued a statement saying that the name of these leaders was taken by an accused who was organizing and being part of the anti-CAA demonstrations. Police say that no one gets accused just by someone's statement.
Khalid Saifi, arrested under the UAPA in the Delhi riots, confessed to interrogation that 5 desi kattas were purchased from Meerut for getting riots in Delhi. Those which were bought for Rs. 25,000. The accused said that this money was given to him by former Congress councilor Ishrat Jahan to buy weapons, after which these weapons were brought from Meerut.
