Hemant Soren: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who had skipped the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summon earlier and dared the central agency to arrest him, has been again summoned by the probe agency. ED has summoned Soren in a case linked to alleged money laundering. His aide Pankaj Mishra was arrested in the case.

Soren had skipped the ED’s first summon earlier this month and dared them to arrest him. However, he sought more time from ED for appearing before them.

This time the ED has asked the Jharkhand Chief Minister to come for questioning on November 17.

Summon defied

The first summon to Soren required him to appear before ED at its Ranchi office on November 3. But Soren defied the summon and instead addressed workers of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha outside his house. Soren alleged that ED was harassing him. The summon is a "part of a plot to harass a tribal Chief Minister", he said.

He also accused the BJP-led central government of letting fugitive businessmen go scot-free and harassing opposition because of political vendetta.

Three arrested

Three persons including Soren’s political representative Pankaj Mishra, were earlier arrested by ED in the money laundering case.

An FIR was lodged at the Barharwa police station in Jharkhand’s Sahibganj against Mishra and others and probe was initiated. More cases alleging illegal mining later came under its purview. ED claimed to have detected proceeds of alleged crime worth over ₹100 crore so far.
