NCP v NCP: One day after Ajit Pawar’s comments over his uncle’s inability to handle leadership at his age, Sharad Pawar gave a fearsome reply at the National executive meet of the party. The 83 ear old proceeded to fire 13 MPA’s including is nephew and his former loyalist Praful Patel. “I am still effective, whether I am 82 or 92,” the NCP chief said. As per the veteran politician effectiveness’ is the essential bottom-line no matter anyone’s age.
Responding to weather Sharad Pawar felt cheated by Ajit’s decision, “No, the party is paramount, and I am bound by the party’s decisions,” he stated. The sharp comments made by Ajit Pawar even created discomfort in his own support base.
“In other parties, leaders retire after an age. In BJP, leaders retire at 75, when are you going to stop? You should also give new people a chance. If we make mistakes, tell us. Your age is 83, will you ever stop or not?” Ajit Pawar had said.
Executive meet illegal
Ajit Pawar’s faction had declared the executive meet in Delhi illegal “No person within the party has any authority to call for any meeting of the National Executive/National Working Committee/ National Office Bearers / State Party Presidents till such time the dispute is finally decided by the ECI.” the statement read.
Sharad Pawar responded by declaring that he is the President of NPC and if someone else is claiming otherwise, they are lying. He also added that “There’s no importance if someone (Ajit Pawar) says something.”
Supriya Sule weighs in
After the comments made by Ajit Pawar, Supriya Sule staunchly came in defense of her father. “Some people are saying that people who are senior now should give us blessings. Why should they stop working? She added that Ratan Tata is 86 years old, Serum Institute’s Cyrus Poonawala’s age is 84 and Amitabh Bachchan is 82. Supriya Sule also added the names of Warren Buffet and Farooq Abdullah. S
Sule maintained that commenting on her father’s age is mark of disrespect and not a credible criticism on someone’s performance.
The faction led by Ajit Pawar, who joined the ruling coalition and was sworn in as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister on Sunday boasts sole credibility of being the representatives of NCP.
