A total of 63.14 per cent polling was recorded in Gujarat during the first phase of polling on 1 December. The results of the Gujarat assembly elections will come on December 8.

While Gujarat Congress chief Jagdish Thakor on Monday accused the ruling BJP of electoral malpractices in the ongoing assembly polls and said the BJP was influencing polling with the help of police and government machinery.

Polling for the second phase of assembly elections began at 8 am today in 93 assembly constituencies in 14 districts of north and central Gujarat. Alleging assault on Congress candidate Kanti Kharadi, the party’s Gujarat chief said the party was receiving similar complaints from other candidates as well.

Thakor made serious allegations

Thakor alleged, “The Congress is winning. Our candidate Kanti Kharadi was attacked last night and was not found for three hours. We called the Election Commission, reached Gandhinagar at 1.30 pm and called them to come there. Complaints of our other candidates are also coming. He also alleged an atmosphere of fear in the state and said it shows that the BJP is losing.

He said that Baldev Thakor is contesting from Kalol and it had been converted into a police camp. There was an atmosphere of fear. This shows that BJP is losing and with the help of police and government machinery they are influencing the voting. Our workers and leaders will contest the elections and win bravely.

Earlier today, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Gujarat’s Viramgam Hardik Patel appealed to the people to vote in the second phase of the assembly elections and said that his party has worked for the development of the state.

Before casting his vote, Patel said, “I appeal to everyone to vote. BJP has maintained law and order and worked for the development of Gujarat. I want all Gujaratis to vote for BJP. We should exercise our power to vote because elections are the beauty of democracy.”
