“I am not a potential target, my phone is tapped” : Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi today, attacking at the government on the Pegasus snooping scandal claimed that all his phones were tapped and that his security men had been asked to report on everything he said.

Gandhi told the reporters “I am not a potential target. My phone is tapped, it is clearly tapped. Not only this phone, all my phones are tapped,”.

Rahul Gandhi has been revealed to be on target on a leaked list of Israeli spyware Pegasus, sold only to governments.

He also mentioned that he had been told by security personnel that his conversations were monitored.

Rahul also added “I get phone calls from IB (Intelligence Bureau) people who tap my phone. My security people tell me they have to debrief what I say. I am in no pretensions that I am tapped,” he also said that even his friends received calls informing them that phones were tapped.

Rahul then said “I am not afraid. I don’t get intimidated. In this country, if you are corrupt and a thief, you will be afraid. If you are neither of those, you have nothing to be afraid of”.

Rahul Gandhi’s name in the list of potential ‘hacking’ targets in the Pegasus scandal underlines a complicated fact of his undying importance. He might not be considered as very successful in terms of political abilities and electoral successes; he may even be among the most mocked politicians. But for his rivals, he has become the matter of concern.

At the very outset, it’s important to clarify that one doesn’t know whether or not the Narendra Modi government authorized the use of the Israeli spyware for snooping, and a lot at this point is conjecture. But the fact remains that there is a list of potential targets out there, and that includes the former Congress president.
