Ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections, the Enforcement Directorate took major action in the state on Tuesday. In connection with illegal sand mining, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday raided the premises of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s relatives and others. ED raid in Punjab continues on Wednesday as well. Sources gave this information today. Sources said that Rs 7.9 crore has been recovered from the house of Bhupinder Singh Honey, a relative of Charanjit Singh Channi, at Mohali and other places. A total of Rs 9.9 crore has been recovered in this raid so far.
On Tuesday, the ED raided several places in Punjab as part of its money laundering probe against illegal sand mining and related companies. Hours after the raid, state Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said that elections are near and efforts are being made to pressurize him and target him and his ministers.
Action was also taken under the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on the premises of a person named Bhupinder Singh alias Honey. Honey is said to be a relative of Chief Minister Channi. The agency is investigating about Honey’s alleged links with a person named Kudratdeep Singh.

According to news agency PTI-Bhasha, Channi alleged in a conversation with reporters on Tuesday, “When there were elections in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee’s relatives were targeted in this way. Similarly, ED is now trying to create pressure and create trouble in Punjab. Efforts are being made to create all kinds of pressure.”
Targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government, he said, “Not only the ministers and the chief minister, but every Congress worker is being pressured. This kind of environment is not good for democracy. When elections are about to come, they thought of ED raids, but we are ready to bear all kinds of pressure, troubles. We will continue with our election campaign and they will not be successful.”
When asked about this, Channi said, “I was not the chief minister in 2018. As you are saying that it is based on the FIR of 2018, so what to do with me. I was not even the Chief Minister at that time, but somehow he has to attack me and my ministers, but let me tell clearly that Punjabis never come under pressure.”
