Karnataka BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa Arrested In Bribery Case

BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa has been arrested in a bribery case after the Karnataka High Court rejected his interim bail application. Madal Virupakshappa was arrested near Kyathasandra toll plaza in Tumakuru on Monday (March 27).

Prashant Madal, son of BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa, was caught red-handed on March 2 by Lokayukta officials while accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh from a contractor.

It is alleged that he was taking this amount on behalf of his father in the KSDL office. Cash worth more than 7 crores was also seized from Virupakshappa's residence.

The High Court had reserved its decision in this matter last week. Justice K. Natarajan rejected the anticipatory bail plea of ​​MLA Virupakshappa from Channagiri.

What is the whole matter?

Virupakshappa resigned from the post of KSDL president after his son's arrest. This alleged scam is related to the supply of chemicals in KSDL, in which there is an allegation of demanding a bribe of Rs 81 lakh. Prashant Madal is the Chief Accounts Officer of the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board. The Lokayukta police probing the case had said that the bribe was to get a tender for supply of raw material to Karnataka Soap and Detergent Limited.

The MLA denied the allegations

The MLA has denied the allegations leveled against him. He said that he is being framed by his political rivals. He also claimed that his son, who was caught red-handed while taking bribe, was innocent. The MLA claimed that someone had sent money to his son's office under a conspiracy.

First got bail from High Court

Lokayukta Police has made four more arrests in this case. The High Court had earlier granted interim anticipatory bail to Virupakshappa on a personal bond of Rs five lakh, which protected him from arrest. Then on getting bail, he was warmly welcomed by his supporters in his home town.
