Maharashtra Cabinet Expansion: Ajit Pawar’s NCP Triumphs! Secures Finance and 6 other Departments

Maharashtra Cabinet Expansion: Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) side won the finance and six other Cabinet expansion ministries, which could cause rifts in the newly formed government coalition in Maharashtra. Ajit Pawar and eight NCP MLAs joined the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government roughly two weeks prior to the expansion. The Ajit Pawar faction won departments for finance and planning, food and civil supplies, cooperatives, women and child development, agriculture, relief and rehabilitation, and medical education during the expansion of the Maharashtra Cabinet.

Ajit Pawar-led NCP Ministers Take Charge in Maharashtra Cabinet Expansion

Ajit Pawar, deputy chief minister, will continue to lead the finance and planning division. Chhagan Bhujbap will be in charge of the Food and Civic Supplies department, while Dhananjay Munde and Hasan Mushrif will be in charge of the Agriculture and medical education departments, respectively. Aditi Tatkare will oversee the Women and Child Welfare department, while Dharmarao Atram will be in charge of the Food and Drug Administration division. Today, representatives from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) arrived at Raj Bhavan, the Governor’s official house, to complete and submit the list of portfolio distribution. The list will be sent to the Chief Secretary for further action after being approved by the Governor. Ajit Pawar and eight NCP MLAs took their oaths of office as ministers on July 2. The Sharad Pawar-led group broke apart as a result of the unexpected decision. A fight over the distribution of portfolios resulted from the admission of NCP leaders, the newest member of the ruling Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) combination. The Cabinet enlargement was put on hold for weeks during a conflict between the Ajit Pawar camp and the Eknath Shinde group.

BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP Share Equal Representation with Nine Ministers Each

Aside from the chief minister and two deputy chief ministers, the Maharashtra Cabinet now has nine members from the BJP, nine from the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and nine from the NCP. It can consist of a maximum of 43 people. Ajit Pawar, who fought for significant portfolios for his party members during his discussions with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, sees the granting of the lucrative finance portfolio to the NCP as a huge victory.
