Following Ajit Pawar’s recent meeting with his uncle Sharad Pawar at a Pune-based industrialist’s residence, political speculations about potential shifts in Maharashtra’s political landscape have arisen. A prominent Congress leader and former Chief Minister of the state asserted that Ajit Pawar approached Sharad Pawar with two distinct propositions. The first entailed Sharad Pawar’s inclusion in the Union Cabinet, either as the Agriculture Minister or as the Chairperson of Niti Aayog. The second involved appointments for Sharad Pawar’s daughter, Supriya Sule, at the central government, and Jayant Patil in the state administration.
“Pawar Sahab made Ajit Pawar. Ajit Pawar didn’t make Sharad Pawar. Sharad Pawar’s stature is high,” Sanjay Raut said.

Supriya Sule reacted and said, “No one has offered me anything nor had a conversation with me…You should ask them (Maharashtra Congress leaders) why they are giving such statements. I have no idea. I am personally in touch with the senior Congress leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Gaurav Gogoi but I am not in touch with their leaders in Maharashtra.”
In response, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut expressed skepticism about Ajit Pawar’s ability to extend such offers to Sharad Pawar, highlighting Ajit Pawar’s limited political clout.
Although Sharad Pawar clarified that the meeting wasn’t secretive and was within his rights as the family’s senior member, the Maharashtra Congress questioned the need for concealed family meetings. Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patole disapproved of such clandestine gatherings.
Contrary to speculation, Sharad Pawar’s daughter and NCP’s Working President, Supriya Sule, vehemently denied any notion of her father supporting the BJP-led government, affirming his commitment to the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance.
Sharad Pawar’s grandnephew, Rohit Pawar, minimized the meeting’s significance, emphasizing the absence of family conflicts and attributing their ability to convene to their amicable relationships. He highlighted that while family interactions are harmonious, ideological differences could spark conflicts. Despite Ajit Pawar’s independent decisions, Rohit Pawar underscored the family’s unity and kinship.
