Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has invited Tata Group to invest in his hometown Nagpur and surrounding areas. Along with this, he has said that facilities like infra, land availability and connectivity are present in this city.

Gadkari, in a letter to Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran on October 7, said that Tata group companies in the steel, auto, consumer products, IT and airline sectors can choose Nagpur for their investment.

Gadkari enumerated the advantages: In the letter, Gadkari has said that the multi-modal international hub Airport at Nagpur (Mihan) has more than 3,000 acres of land in SEZ and non-SEZ area. He said that many companies have made their base in this area. According to Gadkari, all Tata group companies like Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Consumer Products, Voltas, Titan Industries, Big Basket can take advantage of the facilities available in Nagpur.

Recently, N Chandrasekaran had said at an event that the Tata group is exploring investment opportunities in electronics, renewable energy, electric wheels and other advanced sectors and talks are on with the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government.

Why it is important: However, this letter by Gadkari comes at a time when many big projects are moving out of Maharashtra's hands to Gujarat. Foxconn-Vedanta alliance's Rs 1.5 lakh crore semiconductor plant moved from Maharashtra to Gujarat.

After this, an aircraft manufacturing project of Rs 22,000 crore investment of Tata Group and Airbus has also been announced from Maharashtra to Gujarat.
