Petty Politics! Congress Slams Name Change, BJP Hits Back with ‘Modiabind’ Taunt over Renaming the Nehru Memorial Museum & Library

Nehru Memorial Museum & Library

Nehru Memorial Museum & Library: Following the Congress’s criticism of the government’s decision to rename the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library as “petty,” the BJP retaliated by charging that the Congress “doesn’t even hesitate to trash its own leaders,” a reference to the nation’s former prime ministers. The party also poked fun at the Congress, claiming that it was affected with “Modiabind,” a play on the Hindi word for cataract, “Motiyabind,” and was blinded by its hatred of Prime Minister Modi.

Congress accuses Modi of pettiness and attempts to obliterate Nehru’s legacy

The government had earlier today declared that the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society (NMML) has decided to change its name to the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library Society during a special meeting. The Congress responded to the action with vehemence. “Modi, you are pettiness and vengeance. Nehru Memorial Museum & Library (NMML) has served as a global intellectual landmark and treasure trove of books and archives for more than 59 years. The Prime Ministers Museum & Society will be its new name. What won’t MR Modi do to misrepresent, denigrate, and obliterate the legacy of the man who created the Indian nation-state? The self-styled Vishwaguru is a small, small man weighed down by his insecurities, according to senior party leader Jairam Ramesh.

BJP accuses Congress of disregarding achievements of past prime ministers

The BJP responded by claiming that the Congress was making accusations despite the fact that its leaders had not yet visited the museum to view the innovative ways in which the contributions and accomplishments of the nation’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and his successors, including Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, PV Narasimha Rao, Rajiv Gandhi, and Manmohan Singh, have been highlighted. “I’m intentionally using their own prime ministers’ names. If they harbour any resentment towards Narasimha Rao, I can understand. BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi stated, “However, I want to know what their issue is with the accomplishments of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and Manmohan Singh, whose time as prime minister have been presented in an ordered manner. “They don’t think twice to criticise their own leaders when they disagree with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Due to the ‘Modiabind’ of Modi’s opposition in their eyes, they are unable to distinguish between their own leaders and others, he claimed.

BJP highlights neglect of Nehru Memorial by Congress

Trivedi reminded the Congress of the way the Modi administration honoured Jawaharlal Nehru’s 125th birthday in 2014, shortly after taking office as the country’s prime minister. In response to the question, “How many Congress leaders have gone to see the Nehru Memorial?,” he stated, “I am startled and a little upset also (by the Congress’ response to the issue). He saw that the first prime minister of India’s memorial at Teen Murti Bhavan was not in very good shape. It was accumulating dust. With the use of cutting-edge technology, the memorial’s section honouring Nehru Ji has been reorganised much better, showing his efforts and accomplishments, Trivedi continued.
