PM Modi to review impact of Yaas cyclone in Odisha and West Bengal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Odisha and West Bengal tomorrow to review the impact of cyclone Yaas. PM Modi will first land in Bhubaneswar where he will hold a review meeting. He will then conduct an aerial survey in the affected areas of Balasore, Bhadrak and Purba Medinipur.

After this, the Prime Minister will take part in the review meeting in West Bengal.

The cyclonic storm wreaked havoc in West Bengal and Odisha on Wednesday. The cyclone hit Dhamra Port in Bhadrak district of Odisha and caused a lot of damage. In Odisha, sea water entered the villages. Many huts were also washed away by water. At the same time, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has claimed that the Yaas Cyclone has damaged about 3 lakh homes in Bengal.

Cyclone Yaas hit the eastern coasts of the country on Wednesday. During cyclone storm winds at a speed of 145 kilometers per hour, many houses were damaged, the fields were flooded. Yaas caused havoc in Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand. More than 21 lakh people have been evacuated to safe places in the three states. The cyclone hit Dhamra Port in Bhadrak district of Odisha and caused a lot of damage. In Odisha, sea water entered the villages and washed away many huts. At the same time, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has claimed that about 3 lakh houses in Bengal have been damaged by the Yaas Cyclone.

In West Bengal, light to moderate rains are likely over most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Medinipur, Jhargram, Bankura during the next 12 hours. During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rains are likely to occur at most places in Jharkhand, heavy to very heavy rainfall and very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Yaas is the second cyclonic storm to hit the shores of the country within a week after 'Tauktae'. PM Modi went to Gujarat recently to take stock of the damage done after the Tauktae.
