PM Narendra Modi has been threatened with an alleged suicide bomb attack during his two-day visit to Kerala starting April 24. A letter threatening an attack and an alleged 'intelligence leak' related to his security raised tensions with the police and the Pinarayi Vijayan government on Sunday. Kerala BJP chief K Surendran's office received a letter purportedly written in Malayalam from a resident of Kochi. It was handed over to the police by Surendran last week. Now the police have admitted that the posting details for the PM's scheduled visit to Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram somehow got leaked.
The news of the threat letter came to light after a report by ADGP (Intelligence) was circulated in the media. When the news broke, Surendran spoke to the media and said that he had submitted the threat letter to the state police chief a week ago. Intelligence reports say that last week the BJP State Committee President of Kerala received a letter written in Malayalam containing a death threat to the Honorable Prime Minister of India using a suicide bomber.
The report also states that the veracity of the letter and who is behind it is being probed. In this 49-page report, the names of the officers on duty, their role, the time table of the Prime Minister's program and other things have been given. The circular also mentions threat letters received by the state BJP chief's office, besides possible threats from the banned Popular Front of India, PDP, Welfare Party and Maoists.
Condemnation of alleged leak of intelligence report
Union Minister of State VMuraleedharan also condemned the alleged leak of the ADGP (Intelligence) report and said it was a serious matter. Meanwhile, Kochi resident N. J. Johnny said that he is innocent. Johnny's name and number were in the alleged threat letter. He told the media that the police have interrogated me. I have given them all the information. They checked the handwriting and everything.' Johnny's family said they suspect another person in the area regarding the letter, which has some controversy over a matter related to a church.
