Punjab Election: Case Filed Against CM Channi, Sidhu Moosewala For Violating poll code

Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Congress candidate Shubhdeep Singh, popular as Sidhu Moosewala, were booked for violating the poll code in Mansa district on Friday, the last day of campaigning for Sunday’s assembly elections.

Both were found campaigning after the canvassing deadline of 6pm on Friday.

Dr Vijay Singla, the AAP’s candidate from Mansa, had gone live on Facebook on Friday evening to show Channi and Moosewala campaigning in the area till 6.30 pm as against the deadline of 6 pm.

Channi had visited a temple with Moosewala and later undertaken a door-to-door campaign in the area.

According to the FIR, Channi has been accused of campaigning in someone else’s constituency after 6 pm, while Moosewala allegedly gathered around 400-500 people, much more than the prescribed limit, for a door-to-door campaign.

Charanjit Singh Channi is contesting the Punjab polls from two Assembly seats — Bhadaur and Chamkaur Sahib. Punjab is going to the polls on Sunday and two days before it the Congress has tried to corner the AAP over the statements made by former AAP leader and founder Kumar Vishwas. Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal has termed it as a comedy and compared himself with Bhagat Singh which the Congress is terming an insult to freedom fighters.
