Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to inaugurate his second extensive outreach initiative, Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, in Thoubal district near Imphal. However, the Manipur government has imposed limitations, restricting the flagging-off ceremony to an hour and allowing a maximum of 3000 participants, due to venue constraints and potential traffic disruptions.

Venue Shift and Participant Limitations

Originally planned for Imphal Palace Ground, the Yatra's venue was shifted to a private ground in Thoubal as the BJP-led N Biren Singh government limited participants to 1000. The Yatra aims to revitalize the Congress party's electoral prospects following a lackluster performance in recent assembly elections.

Conditions and Prohibitions

Approval for the Yatra comes with conditions, including a prohibition on anti-national or communal slogans during the rally. Organizers must cooperate with state authorities, and the permission is contingent on maintaining peace, public order, and tranquility in the area.

Objective of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra

The Congress emphasizes that the Yatra is not electoral but a means to address people's issues since the government didn't provide a platform in Parliament. The initiative seeks to uphold the constitutional principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.

Significance Amidst Ethnic Violence

Taking place against the backdrop of ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur, the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra gains added importance. The region has witnessed over 180 casualties since May, underscoring the need for a peace-centric initiative.

Yatra Route and Timeline

The Yatra is scheduled to traverse 100 Lok Sabha segments across 15 states, concluding in Mumbai on March 20 or 21. Covering Manipur and four northeastern states, it will then extend through West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
