Soon after her release from the special prison for women in Vellore, Nalini went to the Vellore Central Jail, from where her husband V Sriharan alias Murugan was released. Besides Murugan, Santhan, the other convict in the case, was taken to a special refugee camp in the state's Tiruchirappalli in a police vehicle after her release. Both are Sri Lankan citizens. Simultaneously, Robert Payas and Jayakumar were taken to a special refugee camp after their release from Puzhal jail.
Apart from Nalini, her husband V Sriharan alias Murugan, RP Ravichandran, Santhan, Robert Payas and Jayakumar were to be released. Sriharan, Santhan, Robert and Jayakumar are Sri Lankan citizens. Nalini and Ravichandran belong to Tamil Nadu.
Nalini remarks on release -
Nalini Sriharan said that I am thankful to the people of Tamil Nadu, who supported me for 32 years. I thank both the state and the central government. I will speak about the rest tomorrow during the press meet in Chennai. Tomorrow the lawyers of the Supreme Court will also present their views.
Meanwhile, Nalini Sriharan's brother Bakiyanathan said in Vellore that Nalini and our family are very happy today. She is going to lead a normal life with her family. We will try to find time for a meeting with CM MK Stalin.
Nalini Sriharan said that I want to be with my family. All my family members were waiting for so long. I want to thank the state and central government. During this they helped us a lot. Wherever my husband goes, I will go there. We were apart for 32 years. Our family has been waiting for us. I am not planning to meet anyone from the Gandhi family.
Significantly, a day before their release, on Friday itself, the Supreme Court had ordered the release of six accused serving a jail term in this case after spending 31 years in jail. Earlier in May this year, the Supreme Court had released another convict AG Perarivalan citing Article 142.
