Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chief has come out in support of his ally Uddhav Thackrey after he lost the iconic “bow and arrow” party symbol to Eknath Shinde faction. Recently Election Commission of India had ordered that party name “Shiv Sena” and the party symbol “bow and arrow” will be used by Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena faction led by Mahrashtra CM Eknath Shinde.
Sharad Pawar: “Loss of symbol will not have any adverse impact on electoral prospects”
NCP supremo Sharad Pawar said that people will accept the new symbol which is allotted to Uddhav Thackrey faction of Shiv Sena. He also asked Udhhav Thackrey to accept new symbol which will be allotted by Election Commission of India.
“It’s the decision of the Election Commission. Once a decision is given, there can be no discussion. Accept it and take a new symbol. It (the loss of the old symbol) is not going to have any major impact as people will accept (the new symbol). It just would remain in the discussion for the next 15-30 days, that’s it,” .
He also reminded Uddhav Thackrey about an incident from the anal of history in which Congress had to change its symbol from two bullocks with a yoke to hand and it was accepted by the masses. Further stated that masses will also accept the new symbol of Uddhav Thackrey faction ,like the way they accepted the Congress Party’s new symbol.
“I remember Indira Gandhi also faced this situation. Congress used to have a ‘two bullocks with a yoke’ symbol. Later they lost it & adopted ‘hand’ as a new symbol & people accepted it. Similarly, people will accept the new symbol (of Uddhav Thackeray faction),”.

As the news poured in that Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena has been allotted the iconic “bow and arrow” symbol , which is one of the most recognizable party symbols in the country and has been instrumental in making Shiv Sena a powerhouse political entity in Maharashtra, the party men associated with the rebel Shiv Sena rejoiced and burst crackers in various cities of Maharashtra.
Shide faction of Shiv Sena has welcomed the decision of being recognized as real Shiv Sena , the aggrieved Uddhav Thackrey faction has stated that it will move and approach Supreme Court for justice.
In the meantime Uddhav Thackrey has accused Election Commission of haste and stated that decision taken by it shows that “it works as BJP agent.”
Election Commission: Shiv Sena’s current constitution undemocratic
However Election Commission has observed that current constitution of Shiv Sena is undemocratic and has been “mutilated to undemocratically appoint people from a coterie as office bearers without any election at all”. Further it stated that party structure of Shiv Sena had failed to inspire confidence.
Uddhav Thackrey to approach Supreme Court
A peeved Uddhav Thackrey has responded to Election Commission of India’s decision by calling it a “murder of democracy” and stated that his party will approach the Supreme Court.
“They should first understand Balasaheb. They have come to know that ‘Modi’s face does not attract people in Maharashtra anymore so they have to put Balasaheb’s mask on their face for their own benefit. I had said that ECI should not give a decision before the SC verdict. If the party’s existence is decided based on the number of MLAs and MPs, any capitalist can purchase MLA, MP and become CM,”.
Uddhav Thackrey has stated that his faction is real Shiv Sena and has the support of the masses,
“We will surely go to the Supreme Court against this EC order. We are sure that the SC will set aside this order,”.
